Try the Tri

On Saturday I participated in my first triathlon! It was called "Try the Tri," and was organized in a way to encourage first-timers to participate. While obviously being a lot of hard work, it was really cool and it has made me want to do more. My brother Chris got us all started on these (including X, two friends, and me!). So thanks Chris!

The distances are a bit shorter than a regular sprint tri, again, in a way to help first-timer. 250 yard swim, 8 mile bike, 2 mile run. Bike and run were the easiest for me, but the SWIM? That has always scared me. I am a recovering doggy-paddler, and about 7 weeks ago that was about it in my swimming repertoire. So thanks to my hubby for teaching me, Ryan Bills for lending me gear, and the lovey ladies at the day care at 24 Hour Fitness, I was able to do it! Yeah! I am a true example of anybody being able to do this as long as you try and train!

Adding to the coolness, old high school friend Scott Phillips was in it too! That's one of the things I love about living here in Dallas...I get to be with old friends all the time. Love it!

In the transition!
Racing to the finish line!

Mommy's Biggest Fan!
X's rugby team also participated in an all-day seven's tournament, which we went directly to after the triathlon (thanks Julia for letting me get cleaned up at your house!). I feel bad that I didn't get any pictures. Sorry honey. Graydon was in hog heaven walking around on the grass all day long and being the team mascot!
We all slept really good that night!

Dude, you rock! I've always heard that the swim is the hardest part. And ... when did Scott have another baby? That. Was. Fast!

GO EMILY!!! I had no idea you were working toward this. That's awesome. I've always wanted to do one but, like you, the swimming always freaked me out.
