On Sept 11th, X did an olympic triathlon in Conway, AR (just north of Little Rock). It was called the Toad Suck 33. I had been wondering for a long time what "Toad Suck" could possibly mean, and last weekend I found out. Apparently the river that goes through the town used to have a lot of passenger traffic on it back in the day. There was a nice bay where people would stop over. The men would go into town and "suck" down so much alcohol that they came back looking like swollen "toads." Um...okay. What do you say to that when a local tells you the story? I just kind of stared at them blankly. They, apparently, are
proud of it and the name gets used a lot.
So...moving on. X, who I fondly refer to as a machine, was a machine like usual. I seriously don't understand where this guy gets his drive, strength, stamina, muscles, and everything else. After he finished his 1 mile swim, 26.2 mile bike, and 6.2 mile run, I asked him how he felt. His answer was not what I expected: "I feel great. That was really fun and relaxing." He meant it genuinely; no pomp or "hoitty-toittiness" with that statement. All I can say is, "Good for him."
He got 10th place overall and 1st place for his age group. This is Graydon hamming it up. He always thinks things are his, including daddy's medal.

The swim, which scared me silly just watching it, was in a lake. Half a mile out and back, with everyone starting at the same time.

Then they moved to the bike and run. I'll spare you more half-nakey pictures of my husband, but just know that it was pouring down rain through the bike and run. Again, he thought it was "invigorating!" Alrighty, then.

We drove 6 hours up and 6 hours back the next day. We were going to camp that night in Hot Springs, but with all the crazy rain, we came straight home. Graydon did better then expected on the ride. He really was a gem all the way, except the last 20 minutes of the ride home, where he just lost it. I've never heard so much whining before in my life!
Oh yeah, the winner of the swim was a 14 year old girl!! Amazing!
