A Candlelit Dinner

So Wednesday night we had a candlelit dinner of cold spaghettios and peanut butter sandwiches (no jelly, mind you, since we didn't want to open the fridge). It was so romantic...I mean, kind of.

We had another crazy storm Wednesday night and I have to say that it was the worst one I'd been in. X and I were both at the gym when it hit and were stuck there for about an hour. We almost got evacuated to the women's locker room!! The windows were shaking so bad and I thought they were going to shatter. Honestly, it looked more like news footage from a hurricane than anything else. When the doors would blow open, we could see the rain blowing horizontally and seriously, no lie, the trees were bent in a 90° angle.

I was really scared about what might be happening to our house! Fortunately, nothing more than a flooded entry way and water leaking through a window. Our tree was tipped over (you can see the picture of the neighbors...X already straightened ours) and my beautiful geraniums are completely destroyed! This is was saddens me the most. They made me happy every night when I got home from work. Fortunately I took their picture last week and now I can remember them. Weren't they so pretty? They literally disintegrated.

Both neighbors on either side of us will need fence repair since they are at a 45° angle. I'm not sure why ours isn't, but I'm happy. On the way home we saw a big trailer (that would sit on a semi-truck) that had blown over and was completely shattered in the middle of the road. About 50% of the trees, fences, light poles, street signs, and even the corn fields are all leaning over. But it could definitely be worse.

We didn't get power back until 5 am, so we decided to at least have fun with our wind-up flashlights (thanks mom and dad for the 72-hour kit) and take "ghost-story" pictures. Aren't we so scary?! X's turned out much better than mine. And, thanks to Kendra, our house smelled lovely with all of our Salt City Candles burning for light!

I'm thankful for all the rain; heaven knows we needed it. But could the winds be left at home? I'm kind of getting sick of them!

Dude, that storm was INSANE! I was at the church (like I am EVERY Wed. night) with the youth and everyone in the building was called into the gym. It was chaos. Did you know that 100mph winds whipped through Frisco? My friend called me on Thursday and said that their entire trampoline, including the protective fencing/netting on it, was lifted up and thrown into their neighbor's yard and eventually into their neighbor's windows. HOLY CRAP!! It was like something out of The Wizard of Oz, she said.

These storms are NUTS!! Glad y'all are okay and that X could fix your tree. Y'all crack me up with your ghost faces...they're totally horrifying. lol.

So spooky. My parents called me when their power went out. I could tell they were a little bored and needed someone to talk to since their TV wasn't working. I'm glad you guys made it though. How scary.

I kept meaning to leave a comment about this post. I was trying to convince Matt to move to Texas, but with all your crazy weather, we've decided that you and X need to sell your beautiful new home and move back to Provo so you can be our neighbors. What do you say?!?!? :)

But seriously, glad you survived. And I LOVE the fact that you had fun with your flashlights - way to lighten up a possibly stressful situation. You guys rock!

oh the fun adventures you guys have been having. wild storms, ruined flowers, no power, candle light dinners. It's all very exciting and I'm a little envious. Instead of reading a good book I just log onto and read the Beckham family blog for some excitement.
