Our Trip to Washington, D.C.

For the whole year we had been planning on going to Europe (and I was excited beyond belief). We were going to fly over on Delta buddy passes, which requires you to fly standby. As we got closer to leaving, we realized that it wouldn't be possible to go because there were no seats! Kind of an important thing! So we decided to go Virginia to visit my uncle's farm. I spent summers there growing up and with thoughts of selling the farm floating around, I wanted X to see it before it was too late.

We spent some time on the farm relaxing and enjoyed the beautiful landscape. The area is full of civil war battlefields and cemeteries to visit. We went hiking in the Shenandoah Mountains, which is something we've really missed doing since we've been in Texas. We went into D.C. and did the tourist thing. We were fortunate enough to see our lovely friend Katie Turner again as she's living there!

We drove up to Gettysburg (Emily's favorite!) and spent the day visiting the battlefields. We went to Valley Forge and Independence Hall in Philadelphia. We had a great time and it was nice to get away for awhile.

Emily your pictures of Virginia are gorgeous! It sounds like you had a wonderful trip. Who follows you around and gets all those perfect pictures of you and X? I think you must have your own photographer :) You're really lucky, I wish Cliff and I had more pictures of us together. I'm glad you got to vacation!

Of course I remember you Emily. I love all the pictures and the fun vacations. Enjoy it while you can because it definitely gets more difficult with little ones, as much as you love them. How exciting that you're almost done with school. I can't wait for the next step although acting like an adult will be a chore. Good-luck with everything. I'll keep checking up on you, technology can be so grand!
